Little Selves Exhibition

Huge congratulations to Claire who won best student painting at the Little Selves exhibition. 

LEICESTER SOCIETY OF ARTISTS LITTLE SELVES EXHIBITION NEW WALK MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY 24 MARCH – 25 JUNE 2017.


“We all like to look at pictures of other people and of ourselves,’’ said Lars Tharp, President of Leicester Society of Artists, as he introduced the Society’s Little Selves exhibition of miniature portraits at Leicester New Walk Museum and Art Gallery, sponsored by Arts Council England.

He commented that today’s selfies are the modern equivalent of miniatures from the past and he praised the high standard of work submitted for the exhibition by art students from  eight schools and colleges throughout Leicester and Leicestershire and Rutland, who contributed 60 items in the show.

Also included in the exhibition total of 141 works are miniatures from the Museum’s own collection, work by LSA members and guest artists Satta Hashem, Michael Gaskell, Paul Wright and photographer Paul O’Leary..

Entries were received from:
Gateway College Leicester; King Edward VII Science and Sports College, Coalville; Leicester  College; Leicester High School for Girls; Loughborough College; Loughborough Grammar School; Oakham School;Robert Smyth Academy, Market Harborough.

Prizewinners:

BECKY HAYLEY (Oakham School): First Prize for Best Student Work (£100, sponsored by Leicester Society of Artists;
TRISTAN ANGUS (Leicester College): Student Print Prize (£50, sponsored by Leicester Print Workshop);
JORDAN ILLINGWORTH (Robert Smyth Academy): Student Drawing Prize (£50, sponsored by Creed Design Associates);
YUANQING ZHANG (Leicester High School for Girls): Student Painting Prize (£50, sponsored by LSA);
